Costs

Taxes: $19,394 a year

Pros

The house is energy-efficient, with geothermal heat and air-conditioning. Original features can be found throughout, such as built-ins, wood paneling and sconces.

Cons

There’s no everyday dining area, only an island and space for a small table in the great room.

Westchester | 12 Idlewood Road, White Plains, N.Y.

A five-bedroom, three-and-a-half bath, 2,700-square-foot updated 1931 house with period details and a formal living room with fireplace, an open kitchen/dining area, a sunroom with a greenhouse window, a first-floor en suite bedroom, side and backyard stone patios and a two-car garage, on 0.21 acre in the Idle Forest section. Steven Geiger, William Raveis, 914-263-5275; raveis.com

Taxes

$19,659 a year

Pros

Most rooms are bright with natural light. Original baths are in good condition, as are other period details, like hardwood floors, built-ins and French doors. The first-floor en suite bedroom would make a perfect au pair suite.

Cons

There is no central air-conditioning. The driveway could use some attention. And most of the property’s green space is out front.

Given the fast pace of the current market, some properties may no longer be available at the time of publication.
